The research carried out by Luciano Arcangeli - leading expert in 16th- and 17th-century painting, with regard to the Marches and to this artist in particular - explores Barocci's role in Italian painting, his relations with his patrons as well as comparing his drawings and paintings to explain how his outstanding artistic production was based on a succession of preparatory stages prior to the execution of the final work: figure drawings, compositional studies, models for light, colour and so on.
The book features a timeline with biographical information about the artist and colour illustrations of the paintings and drawings, which were the subject of a recent photographic campaign.
