Georges Adéagbo knows how to reveal the affinities and similarities, sometimes unsuspected, that can exist between different cultures. The first African artist to receive the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Biennale in 1999, in his installations Adéagbo extrapolates the notions of time and space to illustrate in a broader way what concerns us as individuals in connection with ourselves, with the group and with the world in which we live.
When one looks closely at Adéagbo's installations, over and above the objects recycled from the flea markets of Geneva and elsewhere, one becomes aware, through his personal reflections on sheets of paper, handwritten letters and tarpaulins, of his continued quest for the points we have in common and which mean that we all belong to one and the same humanity.
