Paolo Veronese. A Master and His Workshop in Renaissance Venice

The exhibition and catalogue will discuss Veronese's complicated chronology, his artistic process, technical discoveries, issues of connoisseurship, and the role of the bottega. On this last point, the exhibition will demonstrate that the many workshop paintings in America are not to be dismissed, as they offer key evidence about the methods of Paolo's assistants. Both exhibition and catalogue will also study his work from new perspectives, addressing the taste for and collecting of Veronese in America, the role of costume and textiles in his oeuvre, the relationship between pictorial innovation and patronage, Veronese's status as a foreigner in Venice, and the relationship between facture and viewer
