Restoration of historical gardens and parks, subject of a post-graduate course within the Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni architettonici e del paesaggio at the University of Rome La Sapienza, is the main theme of this collection of essays. The topic will be analysed from different perspectives representing the variety of fields related to it. The major subjects introduced in this volume are mainly theoretical studies such as the theory of restoration based on the analysis of examples, like the garden of Boboli in Florence or Quirinale in Rome. Other objects of interest are history of gardens and landscape as well as more pratical aspects like surveying and cartography, static of trees, botany and phytophisiology. It has been chosen to include a variety of perspectives in order to demonstrate that a multidisciplinary approach is necessary when it comes to the analysis of sensible and important practice such as restoration of historical gardens.
