The title ""Italian Language. History, Structures, Texts" clearly expresses the focus of this new Journal, which welcomes articles on the history of Italian language and linguistics, and of antique and modern dialectology, as well as styles that have been renewed in their methods and aims (the authors' options may concern formal types and traditions; discursive strategies, textual and intertextual dynamics, etc.). The title appears bland but in reality is strongly evocative of complex problems of identity, implying that the journal, covering all eras of our linguistic history, will focus particular attention on 20th century themes, without neglecting more current topics.
