The fascinating history of the three silver and metal factories, Gerritsen/Gerritsen & Van Kempen, Gero and Sola, established in Zeist by the brothers J.A. and M.J. Gerritsen during the first two decades of the twentieth century. These Zeist factories played an eminent role in the design and production of silver tableware, in both classic and contemporary styles: in the 20's and 30's it was Art Deco, and in the 50's and 60's came the streamlined designs. The book demonstrates the enormous variety in utensils and provides remarkable insight into table culture at that time. It also contains a list of brands and a schematic overview of the most common tableware models with, whenever possible, the year and name of the designer. Thus this book is required reading for all that are interested in silver, and a source of inspiration for all that enjoy lavishly set tables.
