J.H. Weissenbruch, 1824-1903

J.H. Weissenbruch was one of the leading members of the Hague School. This richly illustrated book approaches its subject from an artistic rather than an art-historical perspective. Painter Jan Andriesse has selected various works by Weissenbruch in an at tempt, not at completeness, but to focus on the artist's unique, painterly qualities and in particular on his treatment of light. It was a technique he had mastered to perfection. The text has been compiled in collaboration with writers, essayists, philosophers, visual artists and experts in various fields of the arts. Contributions are included from Marian van Heteren, Hans Janssen, Nicolaas Matsier, Marcel Vos, Jan Andriesse, Jan Roeland and many others. With its contemporary approach this volume is far more than just a monograph on an artist.
