Born in Chambéry in 1964, Françoise Pétrovitch teaches Fine Arts at the École Supérieure Estienne. In 1996 she was awarded a special mention at the Lacourière Prize. She lives and works in Cachan.
Françoise Pétrovitch always leads us gently and gravely where we do not expect to go.
By proceeding more often than not through series of works, she trains her piercing gaze both on major global events and minor things of life. Duality, absence, inaccessible intimacy appears on the surface of the paper taking us by surprise.
Drawing has a special place among the many media she adopts (ceramics, glass, wash drawing, painting ...), revealing a plastic economy marked by fairness, a refusal to comment and a way of moving forward "step by step".
The words, objects, animals and unsettling forms that accompany them shake us out of our habits and disrupt our certainties. They allow us to glimpse completely secret places that are inevitably disturbing and fascinating. With tenderness and cruelty, Françoise Pétrovitch reminds us that we are fragile beings, not far removed from the animal world.
