A compelling collection of images providing a clear interpretation of contemporary reality of India and South America.
This is the fourth publication in the Skira Contemporary Photography series and presents the works of 22 artists from India and South America.
Many of the Indian artists dedicate their work to exploring a past that up to recent times was marked by British colonialism; on the other hand, the South American artists tend to put nature at the centre of their work, nature which at times is seen as an ancestral source of life, at other times like a mirror of human behaviour, and finally very often as a resource exploited irresponsibly by unscrupulous men. More than one hundred works are reproduced in the book (including videos, photographs, animation and installations) and together with introductory texts on the artists, the publication presents a multi-faceted view investigating the cultural, natural, historical and artistic variety distinguishing the two areas, highlighting their strong points and different critical issues.
Among the Indian artists: Samanta Batra Metha, Nikhil Chopra, Priyanka Dasgupta, Amar Kanwar, Fariba Salma Alam, Ketaki Sheth, Sudarshan Shetty, Dayanita Singh, Raghubir Singh, Vivan Sundaram.
Among the South American artists: Claudia Andujar (Brazil), Adriana Bustos (Argentina), Luz Maria Bedoya (Peru), Matias Duville (Argentina), Laura Glusman (Argentina), Marco Pando (Peru), Ishmael Randall Weeks (Peru), Sara Ramo (Brazil), Rosângela Rennó, Mauro Restiffe (Brazil), Sebastian Szyd (Argentina), David Zink Yi (Peru).
