L’exposition illustre l’évolution du paysage depuis la fin du XVIIIe siècle-début XIXe siècle alors que l’académisme est encore très présent dans les mentalités, jusqu’à la modernité d’une Denise Esteban (1925-1986) en passant par l’impressionnisme où les peintres se libèrent d’un carcan. Pour cette exposition, le musée de Lodève s’est associé au musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims qui possède l’une des collections les plus importantes en France de peintures du paysage du XIXe siècle.
