He famously refused to, and in documentary films of him working, he never said a word. "My works speak for me" was his motto and he maintained it obstinately for almost half a century, in the course of which he turned down interviews, celebrations, prizes and awards.
This volume is therefore the first and only publication of Burri's interviews in existence and is therefore particularly precious, beyond the usual circuits of journalism and art criticism, since it collects conversations between the artist and his friend and interlocutor Stefano Zorzi from 1994, near the end of Burri's life.
In this text, we hear from Burri himself about his untraditional materials and processes - from burlap canvases, to plastic, to cements, to scrap iron and plastic sheets -that revolutionized midcentury painting.
