The artwork transcends geographical limits and sheds light on the whole question of work in Europe today, through the intimacy of its observation rather than by any implicit criticism.
Claire Chevrier worked with the people, the spaces, the light, and the objects she found on the sites. Without isolating the subject, even in the tightly framed shots, she went beyond documentary through her close attention to the inhabitants and to the intrinsic nature of the places.
The photography in this work presents everyday life and its limits. Il fait jour is evidence of the way people inhabit these places, how a body - and the tools that accompany it - eventually becomes part of the singularity of the workspace.
