The journal has to celebrate, in its history, at least three birthdays. The first one dates back to 1919, when physiologist Osvaldo Polimanti founded "Rivista di Biologia", at the University of Perugia (Italy). A second birthday was the change, in 1986, into a bilingual international journal, whose name was extended to "Rivista di Biologia/ Biology Forum". In 2011 a third birth, with Fabrizio Serra editore, a new typographical format, a partly renewed board of editors and the name "Theoretical Biology Forum". As in the past, the journal aims to be a forum open to unprejudiced, scientifically rigorous discussion about biological topics of general theoretical interest, as transdisciplinary as possible. Biology in fact proceeds by contamination and it is necessary that scientists from different fields approach biological questions using their own intellectual instruments, thus offering new perspectives. To such a fertile contamination and to the transdisciplinary circulation of ideas "Theoretical Biology Forum" aims at giving its most convinced contribution.
