The title of this journal does not attempt to claim the supposed priority and self-sufficiency of the dramatic text considered as literature compared to the importance of performance (which would be out of place and time), but it reflects the desire and intent to establish an initial plan of comparison. "Rivista di letteratura teatrale", vaster in scope than dramatic literature or dramaturgy, is literature that refers to, represents, plans and comments on the theater in various ways and forms, in its many territorial and chronological inflexions. With this aim, the editorial board brings together the varied competences of scholars, historians of literature and performance, language historians and theater critics. The two most numerous groups are from the Universities of Naples and Venice where the project was originally conceived, with the idea that starting initially from the two most important homes of Italian theatrical tradition, the outlook can then expand without limits or restrictions
