The book contains the proceedings of a seminar organized by the Centro Studi Antoniani in collaboration with the Universities of Porto and Lisbon. The seminar, held in Padua in 2023, explored the figure of Saint Anthony for a new biography.
The title "Antonius pater et frater noster" refers to a definition Anthony received from the early Franciscan Order. The contributions, after a focus on the many insights he has received over the years, illuminate his roots in the Portuguese context, expanding on a comparison with the contemporary Order of Preachers, the reception of his sermons in a changing cultural context, his image in the sermons that preserve his memory, and an iconographic comparison of a miracle reproduced for its ethical significance.
