The volume, divided in three parts, is composed of eleven studies. The first part illustrates the origin of three odd but quite common words (stregua, scagnozzo, iosa), while the second analyses five unusual ones (isonne, baliere, boncio, gandavugli, guarmine). The third part examines some apparently aberrant linguistic or graphic conventions: the expression un paio di nozze; the ill formed sentences of a sonnet by Luigi Pulci; the exorbitance of accents in the so called Giuntina di rime antiche (1527).
