It therefore includes the historical period from 1911, with the founding of the Royal Order of Lions, to 1916, with the founding of the "The International Association of Lions Clubs", and then until 1919, the year of its Incorporation in the State of Illinois.
In particular, two characters, both with a strong personality, emerge and stand out: William Perry Woods and Melvin Jones.
The first as creator and founder, in Evansville (Indiana), first of the Royal Order of Lions and then of the "The International Association of Lions Clubs" of which he was also the first International President; the second, who as Secretary General of the Association, with his total dedication and his commitment, provided the fundamental, decisive, impulse for the promotion and growth of the Association beyond the borders of the USA.
