Gio Ponti. Il palazzo di Montecatini

«The great building assumes therefore the interest of a gigantic machine: it is all a device; the vitality of its rhythm is that of a neat keyboard»: this was how Giuseppe Pagano commented on the new work of Gio Ponti on the pages of Casabella in 1939.
Realized during the period of twenty years between the two wars in the complex survey of the Italian and Milanese architettonic culture, this building interprets the characteristic rationalist principles of modernism and, at the same time, expresses the twentieth-century taste of the architect sticking to the classicism. Synthesis between art and tecnique, the Montecatini Palace is a pure «crystal» of architecture that puts beside to the rigour of the geometry the glamour of the tradition, reflecting an ideal image of exactitude.
