A charming romp, in verse, through the British Monarchs from William the Conqueror to Elizabeth II. First published in 1932, Herbert and Eleanor Farjeon's Kings and Queens of England has attained the status of a children's classic. The charming poems, each one dedicated to a different King or Queen, tell the story of the forty-one English monarchs from William I to Elizabeth II in a humorous and charming way that has delighted generations of children and their parents. This beautiful facsimile edition features the wonderful original illustrations by the artist Rosalind Thornycroft, and it is the first time that it has been published in this form since 1953. Henry VIII 'Bluff King Hal was full of beans; He married half a dozen queens;' George V 'George V had a naval beard, Was far more loved than he was feared' Eleanor Farjeon (1881 -1965) was a writer and poet and playwright. Whilst best known for her children's verse and stories she was also a regular contributor to Punch Magazine (1914-17), and wrote the words of the popular Hymn 'Morning has Broken'. Herbert Farjeon (1887-1945) was a dramatic critic, writer, playwright, theatre manager, and theatre researcher. He was the brother of Eleanor Farjeon.
