De Schilderijen van Museum Catharijneconvent

The exceptional colection of paintings in the Museum Catharijnevconvent in Utrecht was assembled over a period of more than 150 years. The basis of the collection was formed by sumptuous collections of the Bisschoppelijk Museum Haarlem and two museums in Utrecht. Since the founding of Museum Catharijneconvent in 1976, other collections have been added. This publication presents almost 1300 devotion panels and Biblical pieces, spotschilderijen ( paintings commissioned by Protestantts that mocked the Catholic Church) and portraits from among the masterpieces of Dutch clerical history, starting around 1250 and stretching into the 20th century. All the works are reproduced.
