Medical rhinoplasty. Basic principles and clinical practice

The number of aesthetic procedures performed wold-wide is constantly increasing both in the surgical as well as in the non-surgical plastic surgery sector. According to the annually released statistics report of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS, 2020 statistics), medical rhinoplasty was ranked amongst the five most frequently performed aesthetic surgical procedures in 2020. In addition, medical rhinoplasty is the only TOP 5 procedure that maintained its constant growth and increase in numbers since 2014.
This increase in world-wide performed procedures not only reflects the high demand but reflects also on the increase in knowledge and competence of the rhinoplasty community.
The emergence of soft tissue fillers and their possibility for a minimally invasive aesthetic nasal procedure has substantially opened up the accessibility for "rhinomodulation", "profiloplasty", "nasal sculpting", or "liquid rhinoplasty".
Despite the significantly smaller aesthetic range of non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures, the required knowledge and skillset is substantial and should not be underestimated. Concepts of beauty, 3-dimensional anatomy, and age-related changes all need to be factored in when aiming for superior and long-lasting aesthetic outcomes.
Drs. Redaelli and Braccini have summarized and enlarged the present knowledge of this field in their third edition of their excellent work: Medical Rhinoplasty. Reading page after page, doors to a new and unknown aspect of aesthetic surgical and non-surgical nasal treatments will opened up for the audience. Up to date anatomic knowledge, clinical pearls, and guided case by case presentations are comprehensively described in this book. I congratulate the authors for their success, but I also congratulate the audience for the learning experience that is waiting for each of them in every page that follows.
