This volume (History of Pesaro Ceramics. From the Malatesti to the Sforza Dynasties) (1350-1513) by Alessandro Bettini - collector and scholar, the curator of many major exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and consultant to international museums - examines the first two main historical periods of Pesaro history: the dominions of the Malatesti (1325-1445) and Sforza (1445-1512) families.
The main ceramists in Pesaro active during both periods and in all workshops are described; furthermore, detailed biographical profiles of the artisans themselves are provided, based on heretofore unpublished documents from historical archives in Pesaro and Rimini.
The documents consulted (about 1,400) have been summarised, translated and classified according to each ceramist, offering new insights into the artistic production, family and workshop history of individuals, changes in the aforesaid, and personal lives.
Ample, full-color photographic documentation consisting of approximately 200 images is provided for each ceramics workshop; an up-to-date bibliography is furnished.
