The Kent State Forum on the City, now in its fifth year with the October 2010 study day devoted to Turin, aims at developing more deeply some of the principal themes of contemporary cities in transformation in order to understand how design culture can affect the drawing up of new scenarios and stories of urban quality. We are interested in stories of cities. Stories that teach, inspire, make us reflect... Turin thus offered itself as a paradigmatic case of a city that has lived through many different seasons in its history, alternating successes and crises, but always with the awareness of being a "leader among cities." No longer officially the Italian capital for well over a century, Turin has always played a leading role in the urban culture of Italy and Europe. The fresco painted by the papers presented at the Forum and collected in this book (which Marco Brizzi has inspired, gathered together, and organized with critical intelligence) tell us about important passages from this history, which is obviously still in progress.
