Nuove infrastrutture per nuovi paesaggi was the title of a congress organised in the spring of 2001 by CITRAC (Circolo Trentino per l'Architettura Contemporanea) in collaboration with the Assessorato all'Urbanistica della Provincia Autonoma di Trento.
The aim of the study meeting was to discuss the relationship between mobility and landscape, also in relation to the provincial programme for territorial development, where considerable attention had been given to developing logistics and mobility systems.
For this reason the experiences of several European territorial experts who had dealt with the issues of the relationship between territory and infrastructure were compared, offering differing points of view and sensitivities: Maria Auböck, Paolo Bürgi, János Kárász, Andreas Kipar, Bernard Lassus and Peter Latz.
The parallel reading of these experiences underlined new issues and methodologies that were in need of further study.
The present volume is in answer of this need.
What do we mean by new infrastructure? and new landscapes? And what is the relationship between these two terms? New is both a thing that has been made a short time ago or that has happened recently. New however is also something else, something different from before. It is in this ambivalent meaning that today we solve the conflict between landscape and infrastructure. Perception, intuition, classification and inflection are four different ways of thinking within a new relationship between new infrastructures and new landscapes.
