Monograph devoted to Afro Basaldella. Among Italian and European nonrepresentational artists, Afro was the one closest to the Abstract Expressionists of the New York School, playing a role of transatlantic mediation, and in the United States is still one of the best-known and most successful European abstract painters.

Published to coincide with the exhibition held at Palazzo Venezia, the volume is a complete monograph devoted to Afro Basaldella, today one of the legendary protagonists of a "liberated" painting in Italia after 1945. Through essays by Claudio Strinati, Marco Meneguzzo, Fabrizio d'Amico, Pier Paolo Pancotto, Bruno Mantura, Giovanni Granzotto, Alessandro Masi, Klaus Wolbert and Annette Wagner and an ample selection of works (temperas, oils and mixed media on canvas, as well as jewelry, pendants, brooches), the monograph covers the artist's long and fertile career from its beginnings in the second half of the thirties until the middle of the seventies.
