From 12 October to 23 November 2024, the Mucciaccia Gallery in London presents Jan Fabre's solo exhibition Songs of the Canaries. A tribute to Emiel Fabre and Robert Stroud curated by Dimitri Ozerkov.
Birds have long been metaphysical symbols in the art of Fabre, acting as messengers between earth and heaven, as well as between life and death. With this exhibition the theme is through a series of sculptures depicting canaries perched on the human brain, which seem to contemplate the inner functioning of the mind. With evocative titles such as 'Sharing Secrets About the Neurons' (2024), these sculptures harmonize the sounds of the sky with the echoes of human thoughts, brought to life through Fabre's delicate craftsmanship.
