Caravaggio: Fashion & Fabrics will present a variety of historic textiles alongside Caravaggio's The Cardsharps. Loaned from the collections of the Diocese of Novara and the luxury fabric manufacturer, Rubelli, with the patronage of the Region of Piedmont and ATL Tourism, Province of Novara these textiles have never before been seen in the UK.

The items of clothing on display are contemporary to those captured by Caravaggio in The Cardsharps, bringing the painting to life through an immediate point of reference and allowing the viewer to make striking visual comparisons between object and artistic representation, seeing how Caravaggio has captured the sheen of the cloth, the pattern of the weave and the richness of colour. Through this exhibition a unique insight into Caravaggio's work is gained, and a further aspect of his artistic technique is given new emphasis.
