Araki. Love and Death

This volume accompanies a monumental retrospective exhibition of works by Nobuyoshi Araki (Tokyo, 1940), one of the world's best-known and most celebrated photographers.
His constant and multi-faceted output is documented through a careful selection of his most important photographic cycles, starting with Satchin, his first renowned series of 1965, and proceeding through Sentimental Journey, Winter Journey, Cityscapes, Polart, Sensual Flowers, Bondage and others all the way up to his most recent work.
The essence of the Japanese eroticism traditionally handed down in Shunga prints is vigorously revived in Araki's photographs, where not only the female nudes that made him famous but also the highly colourful objects and flowers seem to take on carnal qualities.
