He has always been curious about the world and about art and he has always been faithful, throughout his research path, to black-and-white photographs. Malick Sidibé was awarded, among the others, the Venice Biennale' Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2007 and the Infinity Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2008.
This book presents a survey of his work, focusing on portraits, characterized by a unique grace and spontaneity, and on the images dedicated to the young, to parties and to families in Bamako in the sixties and seventies of XX century.
Laura Serani's foreword contextualizes Sidibé's work in a wider survey of African photography; the book also includes an interview to the photographer by Laura Incardona and an appendix with Sidibé's "chemises" - documenting how he worked in his studio - biography and bibliography.
