Photographs of real places, encountered and experi-enced
in the space of 20 years, between West and East,
between the city and the desert, between opposite con-ceptions
of space, void, presence and absence, by Silvio
Wolf (Milano, 1952). Timeless images of eternal places,
metaphors of the threshold, of the body and elsewhere,
represented through the codes of light and time. A book
without pictures of human beings, just the symbolic rep-resentations
of their ritual spaces, journeys and ritual struc-tures.
Browsing through the book is like undertaking a jour-ney,
the works are the stations, the emblems of a present
elsewhere. Wolf is an artist and professor of photography
at the School of Visual Arts of the European Institute of
Design in Milan and visiting professor at the Academy of
Fine Arts in Brera. He produces both photographs and
installations and environmental interventions using video,
light, projection and sound. To his credit he has temporary
and permanent exhibitions and installations in galleries,
museums and public spaces in Europe and America.
