The Proceedings of the Sixth International Congress on Psychoanalysis and Art held in Florence - Italy in 2014 is an absorbing compilation of essays by psychoanalysts, artists and art historians. The theme of the 2014 Symposium encompassed the artist's relationship to their artistic creation, but also the relationship of the audience or patron to the art object and to the artist.
The papers gathered in this volume explored these intersecting, dynamic relationships and focused on artists working in a diverse range of media: music, graphic art, and sculpture. In turn, psychoanalytic theories and observations about artists and their creativity process was enriched by the challenges of exploring individual artists and their relationship to their chosen artistic medium.
