The photo-report documents the lives of the women of Séguénéga and YIDGRI: working women and mothers. These women are the point of reference and backbone of the family nucleus but they don't receive any school education and are unable to be economically independent, since they don't receive the necessary medical treatment to stay healthy. With her photos, Susanna Venturi captures moments of life and desperation, but at the same time, a desire for life and dignity. The images are pictures of her Africa; made up of colours approaching saturation point, which paradoxically make the report more real and tangible, catapulting us into those places so hot and desolate, but at the same time, so distant and removed from our daily lives.

This volume has been put together thanks to the contributions of Marco Aime, Father Alex Zanotelli and Giobbe Covatta.
