ANTHOLOGY OF GIRLS is a photo album composed of photographs of girls for girls and about girls. A girl is neither a woman nor a young woman; a girl is an innocent revolutionary being with a hidden sexuality and a saber-toothed mouth ready to tear off the fattest piece of the world. I compiled an almanac, an anthology, a dirty handmade visual bible for girls in which provocation, innocence, aggression, vulnerability, pornography, anarcho-eroticism, and sloppiness are interwoven. I was not specifically interested in feminist women artists, and I was not trying to make a "feminist statement." At the time of collecting the material, I did not find in feminism any kind of revolutionary or sexual fervor. Queer aesthetics and feminist aesthetics, in my view, are still rife with clichés. I wanted to focus on the essence of girlhood within a patriarchal model, where the girl fights like a guerrilla: she stands on a meta-level above the man and secretly rules the world, using the benefits of patriarchy and conquering the market, politics, and ethics, making radical femininity her main weapon. ANTHOLOGY OF GIRLS consists of works by artists living in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus (or immigrants from these countries) who work with portrait, self-portrait, and modeling (where modeling is a full-fledged artistic statement).
