In his beautiful poem Un'altra sera, Agostino Bonalumi (born in 1935) outlines the "portrait" of artistic inspiration, both sublime and intangible, that ends up melting in that "glass of shadow" into which every memory and every desire slips.
Bonalumi, both as poet and as great visual artist, outlines a space that to our eyes makes intense use of shadows and its metaphors: it is a space that sinks into otherness, into mystery, and yet that tends to invade the concrete, yet intangible, space of our physicality. In the changing and vital shadows that come alive in his well-known evaginations, he shows us that which is invisible.
Frequently focusing his attention on shadows, on the other part of the real and of the visible, he fills his works with a visionary and uncanny power, a reminder of the "metaphorical multiplicity of the sign" which the great Metaphysical painter Giorgio de Chirico (1889-1978) attributed to architecture.
