On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the annexation of Trieste to Italy, Fratelli Alinari traces the historical stages involved in reuniting the city once and for all to the Mother Country in a lavish repertory of photographs, many of which previously unpublished. This completely visual itinerary begins in the immediate postwar period, with documentary evidence of events explored objectively and impartially, touching in the crudeness of their depiction, but also profoundly human and imbued with that higher significance that makes them ‘History'. Its multifaceted reconstruction makes it possible to trace the complex series of events of a Trieste that was initially divided and controlled, until that momentous October 26, 1954 when the landing of the Bersaglieri definitively sanctioned its reunion with the Italic land.
