The Author recreates here the identities of the "foreign inhabitants", who lived in Fiesole from the early 20th century until the Eve of the World War II. He recollects that particular and magic atmosphere in which inhabitants were immersed unconsciously and which permitted them to meet the large colony of the most popular and well-known intellectuals: Arnold Böcklin, W. O. J. Niuewenkamp, Charles Augustus Strong, Bernard Berenson and Adolf von Hildebrand. The particular magic atmosphere of Fiesole, which had characterized the life of the town until the Eve of the World War II, allowed it to become the reference point for the international high society, present in or passing through Tuscany, together with the social and cultural role that the town has had since the Seventeenth century and that transformed it into an object of worship among grands tourists. Moreover, Fiesole was and is a place rich in arts masterpieces, glorious ruins of ancient civilizations, literary traditions and landscapes which found their consecration in art.
