Artists of Nigeria

Artists of Nigeria charts the chronological development of modern Nigerian art, analyzes work by significant Nigerian artists, and explores art movements both within the country and beyond its borders. The vibrant creative accomplishments of Nigerian artists, which are often overlooked in global publications, are here given the attention they deserve. An engaging text examines the influence of different cultural institutions and cultures on the development of modern and contemporary Nigerian art over the past 100 years. Among the featured artists are Olowere, whose work is in the collections of the British Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Smithsonian Institution; Chike Aniakor, who has a PhD from Indiana University; and Uche Okeke, whose work has been shown at the Sherman Gallery at Boston University.
