The transition from the "internal museum" to a model of a museum system in cities and territories, ie the idea of "museum outside the museum", is the conceptual knot that binds the content of this book, which is composed of a commented collection of fifty projects respectively from forty-six architectural firms in Europe, and of two opening essays exploring the archeology and museography in terms of their relationship with the modern city, and with the landscape. What legitimate the series of concrete examples in this book is the fact that they were built proposing physical and materical contact between old and new, ensuring the continuity of fruition in time.
