Published in 1954, edited by Cecil Grayson, in the "Nuova collezione di testi umanistici inediti e rari" at that time directed by Augusto Mancini and Paul Oskar Kristeller, it is one of the numerous philological and critical studies that the eminent scholar and main editor of Alberti's works published between 1952 and 1960, while he was editing the edition of the first volume of Opere volgari.
Prefaced by a foreword by Cesare Vasoli, who reconstructs its origin, the Greyson edition acquires an even greater importance as it was published in those years when that exceptional revival of Albertian studies was starting up, that changed the interpretation of one of the greatest personalities in the Humanistic and Renaissance tradition.
