Do as You're Told

Sammy, a young local reporter in Turin, needs to boost his career at La Stampa. Through investigative work, he uncovers a story on the Mafia that enables his reputation to launch onto the national level. He ends up pursued by the police and Mafia, so he takes refuge in an elite Italian boarding school, as a teacher, under a false identity. This institution enters into a process of confrontation between tradition and modernity. The book is a humorous journey of breaking out of traditional behaviour towards modernity. The two worlds of the Mafia and school meet and mix, providing a whirlwind of events to laugh at. In both environments the solutions to their problems are the spirit of initiative and mobilization from the bottom, Italian style. This leads to a rejection of privilege, and a return to deep community.
