Donne luoghi lavoro. Immagini del lavoro femminile a Piacenza nel Novecento

The exhibition Donne luoghi lavoro takes its origin from a project promoted by the Municipality of Piacenza (Assessorato alle Pari Opportunità and Politiche Giovanili). Through a series of studies and inquiries on women employment in the province of Piacenza in the course of the last century this project aims to develop an exhausting outlook of the present position of women in the labour market and of the problems connected to this subject. From the inquiries put forward there appear on one side the role of job as an instrument of personal affirmation for women in the society, on the other there emerge the problems caused by a constant "job segregation" of women, and the prevalence of men in certain positions.

The catalogue includes a series of essays on this subject and is illustrated by more than one-hundred photographs passing through the main phases of history of women's employment in the province of Piacenza in the last century, a territory characterized by the special attention drawn to agricultural and handicraft activities together with food and textile industries in the XXth century. An evocative journey of the memory through women's work to which the exhibition is entirely devoted.
