The history of the Brionvega brand reflects the commitment of the Brion family, the founders of the company, to the marriage of technology and design, and to a "quest for independence of market monopolies, [with] design as the project within the project." The author illustrates Brionvega's identity by reexamining the models of production that stand out as landmarks in the evolution of the brand from the sixties to the present day. Brionvega has worked with the best architects and designers, making itself an interpreter of the most innovative and lively period in Italian design, and a protagonist, along with the elite of the entrepreneurial class, of the so-called "Italian miracle." From the products of the sixties, like Zanuso and Sapper's Doney and Algol - acquired for the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York - as well as Albini's Orion, and from the RR126 radio-phonograph of Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni to Bellini's Totem and all the way up to the most recent Doge and Teatro designs, which mark the passing of the baton from the Brion to the Formenti family, Brionvega has collected some of the most important awards for design. In 1970, according to the official justification, "the Compasso d'Oro is assigned to Brionvega for having been determined to impress a high level of quality on the greater part of its production, and to avail itself of the work of the best designers in Italy, in many cases attaining results of notable cultural value on the plane of design at an international level." The lavishly illustrated volume combines a detailed overview of Brionvega production with an interesting examination of the developments in art that accompanied the evolution of Italian design, as it earned ever greater appreciation all over the world.
