The Internet is set up as an immense, complex and multi-purpose machine/mother. The juxtaposition of the female body and a mechanical device is not new in the history of art. After all, the bride stripped bare in Marcel Duchamp's Large Glass turned the Great Mother depicted in Gustave Courbet's L'Origine du Monde into a machine. Reflecting upon Large Glass, Vettor Pisani built an authentic mechanical device, Lo Scorrevole. Harald Szeemann's The Bachelor Machines would come later. However, Maria Crispal interprets this concept in a way that is absolutely pioneering, original and contemporary.
The oracular disposition of Maria Crispal's work is set in such a way as to allow the community to speak through her, to become a ventriloquial body and let collective thought and discourse pass through her body.
This publication is a work that outlines the artist's excursus, including her most important performances and the artistic-educational projects she has designed in collaboration with Solstizio.org.
The projects, which involved over 10,000 students from Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, are funded by the European Community and based on the environmental issues of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
