Gino Marotta (Campobasso, 1935) blends in his works industrial design and architecture, exploring the relationship between the natural and the artificial according to scientific and technological criteria. The material of which his works are made form an integral part of this, as shown by his Methacrylates, so-called for the chemical compound used, which establish a dialogue between the biological world and its recreation (or replacement) in the laboratory.
A protagonist of Italian avant-garde movements from the 1950s onwards, between the 1960s and 1970s the artist creates works in which nature and the history of art are dealt with by a technological paraphrase. Methacrylate seems to investigate the potential for survival of nature itself in the urban context, sculpture becomes a "projectual" interpretation of water, old paintings, forests or trees.
Environments made of light and voids and chromatic presences taken to the boundaries of the immaterial show the intensity and rigour of the artist's iconic conception.
