Chiara Balbarini graduated at Pisa University with a thesis on 14th century Pisa manuscripts (under Gigetta Dalli Regoli). She frequented the School for Specialisation in History of Art, collaborating also with some national research projects on Medieval Pisa and Lucca painting and illustrated comments to Dante's Commedia, and is currently studying for a PhD in History of Art at the same Pisa college, with a project concerning Guido da Pisa's illustrations to the Inferno, preserved in Chantilly. She has published several articles on the problems of illuminated manuscripts in "Critica d'Arte", 2000 and "Bollettino Storico Pisano", 2001 and 2002.
