At the Crossroads of Worlds emerges Bai Ming, a multifaceted artist whose diverse media and approaches are at once time-honored and experimental, creating art that inhabits a space between the old and new, perfection and imperfection, the functional and the conceptual. Harmonizing his masterful know-how and freedom of expression, Bai Ming's artistic journey across techniques and materials, which are all traditional in China, clearly shows his will to question the notions of tradition and modernity, while affirming art as the great stimulant of life. The exhibition attempts to reveal all the faces of this artist, bringing together more than eighty works of ceramics, installations, ink and lacquer paintings, spanning thirty years of his career. These are timeless works rooted in an immemorial artistic history, which the artist reinterprets with the sensitivity of a man of his time, and the technique and inventiveness of an outstanding multimedia master. His singular language is essentially of today, but independent from the reproducible language of contemporary art in the globalized world.
