This album of drawings was originally a gift presented in 1795 by the architect Luigi Rusca to the nobleman Zampiero Grimani, Venetian Ambassador to the court of Catherine II. The precious book, presented here in a numbered facsimile edition with an in-depth historical and critical apparatus, contains twenty plates. Mostly in Indian ink and water-colour, they depict some of the principal monuments and residences of St Petersburg: works by Rusca himself and by others such as the illustrious Jean-Baptiste Michel Vallin de la Mothe and Giacomo Quarenghi.
