L'immaginazione tecnologica e la città d'arte: Firenze-Technological imagination and the historic city: Florence

An historic city like Florence is extremely fragile because any intervention or change can disrupt its extraordinary but delicate equilibrium. The fragility of Florence is due to the millions of visitors who pose a threat to its architectural and artistic masterpieces and to the city itself as a living and working system.
This fragility is a challenge for advanced digital technologies that thanks to their unobtrusiveness and adaptability could make the historical neighbourhoods of Florence more livable both for people (residents and tourists) and industries. Collaboration between the City of Florence, the University of Florence and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has produced this innovative research on the potentials of advanced digital technologies which could project Florence into the XXI century.
