Caravaggio and his Time. Friends, Rivals and Enemies

The life of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio is rich with stories and anecdotes that have made him into a symbol of the damned artist. An artist who in Rome surrounded himself not only by the admiration and support of illustrious patrons but also by the envy and rivalry of other artists living in Rome at the time.

The ambitious exhibition Caravaggio and His Times: Friends, Rivals and Enemies, presents eleven of the greatest masterpieces by Caravaggio - including The Supper at Emmaus, Bacchus, Boy with a Basket of Fruit, Boy bitten by a Lizard, Narcissus - from some of Italy's important museums and private collections. Also on display will be masterpieces by Orazio Gentileschi, Georges de la Tour, Jusepe de Ribera, Simon Vouet and other artists who influenced or were influenced by Caravaggio's iconographic and stylistic innovations.
