A large exhibition in Palazzo Reale pays homage to this great Uruguayan artist with a spectacular display of his sculptures Pablo Atchugarry (b.1954), a Uruguayan of Italian origin, is one of the most acclaimed sculptors internationally, and for many years he has chosen Lombardy as his place of inspiration and production. So it's natural that Milan should reward him with a large exhibition of his works from the last twenty years, after his personal exhibitions in Italy at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, as well as in Rome and Pietrasanta, all key places in historical and traditional sculpture, and more recently with exhibitions around the world in the Groeninge Museum in Bruges, in the modern city-state of Singapore in 2018, and in Geneva and Miami in 2020. Well-known in Europe and America - or rather, the Americas - the Uruguayan artist chose Lecco and its mountains to create his work and make it known around the world: his Foundation, established in Miami, not only contributes to his fame, but stages temporary exhibitions to introduce people to the world of art, particularly the art of South America, in a spirit of solidarity that is truly exceptional. The "modern" meaning of his sculpture, in the sense that could be attributed to the "tradition of the new", perfectly embodies its international flavour that has rewarded him with a slow, growing and inexorable success. The exhibition is to be staged at the Palazzo Reale in Milan from 26 October of this year, with the central nucleus in the beautiful Sala delle Cariatidi, the site chosen by Picasso in 1953 to display his Guernica, after the Metropolitan in New York. The works on display will mainly be mounted in a spectacular and dramatic arrangement, but some spaces will be reserved for a more secluded, almost intimate viewing: for example, the exhibition plans to include a partial reconstruction of the atmosphere in the "workshop" where the artist sculpts.
